O2 Sensor Failure? Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I'm fighting a final issue on my LH2.4 conversion - the CEL is on 99% of the time. Every once in a while it flicks off for 5 minutes, but then it's back on again. The car runs wonderfully, idles wonderfully, but the light is on and thus I can't pass smog. I've put about 100 miles on it with nary a problem.
I pulled the codes, they were all pertaining to a mixture-of-out-whack scenario, with one code (forget which one) indicating a problem with the O2 sensor.
I get +12v on the preheater circuit all the way to the sensor. With the engine running, I disconnected the single sensor wire - got ~0.5v at the ECU side (spec) but nada on the O2 sensor side. With things plugged back in, engine running, I get voltage all over the place (from 0 to over 1v) and every once in a while it'll stall at about 0.2v.
Tonight I pulled the O2 sensor out. It's a pasty white color. Nothing else weird. With the engine running but the O2 sensor out of the collector pipe, it gets nice and hot of its own accord, so I think the preheater is working just dandily.
Before I go replace the wire, does this sound like a failed O2 sensor? It's only two and a half years old, but I can't think of anything else it could be...
