there are about 60 spot welds to cut out, and some of them are very difficult to get at and have to be hit from inside the car under the dash, requiring removal of alot of the dash. i'd say avoid that route at all costs.
best way if the replacement lip route doesnt work for you, is to cut as much or a little more than you need off the donor car (ie cutting inside the wheel well and then down and out as much as you need to) and do the same on your car, then weld the replacement piece in and have it seamed up. this route is the way to go on the rear q-panel as well, as it has about 100 welds, again requiring removal of the interior to get at all of them.
