Couple of things...the plastic cover that has the index mark on it is fragile and warps or cracks off the bolt hole mounting points easily...mine is barely hanging on (87 900T) and next time I check the timing I have to put in/on a new cover.
Re the SPG9 AID...no matter what the guys at SPG9 did, I don't think the linkage will retard the timing more than the original (at full boost) unless the tab/stop in the distributor is bent to allow it. SO, if you bump the timing to 19/20 degrees BTDC, you'll just end up with 4-5 degrees MORE advance at full boost, even though the AID does give smoother, more incremental pressure retard. You can help if you decide to run 19-20 degrees timing by running Sunoco 94 or even 100 unleaded if it's available in your area. Otherwise the knock sensor will give you an unstable boost (mine will stay half-3/4 red using an old Group6 modified APC if I run 94 on a coolish 70F day, otherwise it pushes to just a little red above 4500 rpm).
I've got an AID and I need to check the distributor pressure retard and modify it...probably when I replace the plastic bell housing cover.
