I just purchased a 94 Convertible 900 about a month ago and I love it! This saabnet.com board will answer any question you can think of. I have that working on this car is very user friendly with a "Bentley" brand repair manual and help from the Saabnet people. If you want a luxury style Euro car, there is nothing better than a Saab 900. The biggest known problem with Saab 900's are the trannys, which you said was replaced very recently. With a new clutch and tranny I would hop on that car before someone else does. The new steering rack is going to run you about $600 parts and labor (just had mine done). How is the rag top? Those can be expensive to replace, at least $1500 P&L from Saab Dealer. I bought a new top from Ebay ($275)and had it installed by an upholstery specialist ($400). The car is very fun to drive, with good power, and great gas mileage (25-30 mpg). It is a practical mans convertible and will last as long as you keep it up. Just curious, how much are they asking for it? Hope this helped.
