actually, that doesnt sound all that far off base...b/c i neglected to mention in the original post that i had accidentally spilled some coke "near" the ignition, damn that saab floor start location, and hadnt driven it for a few days after 'the incident'. i didnt actually drive the car very far after i noticed the problem (probably a total of 5-6 miles and all just back roads) including a couple of stops...question: when you say the starter seized and locked the motor did this cause any major damage?? i dont plan on driving it anymore until i get this figured out, but i want to be sure that i havent already caused horrific damage.. question 2, errr....what is Brakleen and where can i find it?

i greatly appreciate your reply, your "longshot" is the best thing ive got and it actually sounds very similar.....
