On the timeline, click on the dot between 1980 and 1990.
With the convertible, it's not as simple as taking a notchback and hacking the top off it. Among other things, you'll notice that the rake of the windshield on a convertible is different than that of any other C900s. You can't economically do that kind of modification without major under-the-skin work.
Valmet built the convertibles from the ground up, using standard SAAB body parts and the parts that they made specifically for the convertible structure. The only panels that I believe they may have actually have done some cutting to would have been the rear quarter panels, where the C pillar comes up on the notchback and is absent from the convertible.
