Maybe use a very small C-clamp to gently close the rubber line from the fluid reservior to the master cylinder to slow fluid loss.
It helps to loosen the master cylinder so you can position it to thread the nut a little more easily.
If you can get a crows-foot flare wrench of the right size (13-mm, IIRC) and an extension, you can save knuckles and aggrivation when you're loosening and tightening the flare nut on the master and slave cylinders. That helped a lot when I rebuilt the master a few weeks ago.
