It sounds to me like you are getting a small amount of coolant in a cylinder due to a headgasket leak. Pull the sparkplugs and if one is amazingly clean, you have found the cylinder where the coolant is leaking. Also, look for telltale bubbles coming out the small hose to the coolant reservoir when you rev the engine. Further check is to see if there is immediate pressure buildup in the explansion tank after start up(as opposed to pressure when the coolant is hot).
Are you sure that the head was planed when the headgasket was done...maybe a warped head?
