Theoretically, you can put a whole bunch of different autos in a 91 but the gearing will be different to some extend.
I would stick with a 91 and newer auto.
Saab part number on the original one was 4118550 but that is superseeded to 8827248.
The numbers on that transmission tag is GA53409 and 016 and was used between 91 and 93 (94 conv), at least here in the US.
You could go with an 89-90 tranny too, GA53408 014. Saab superseed those numbers on their rebuilt units to the same 8827248 as in 91-94.
Are you planning on installing a used or rebuilt one?
Me personally, I would never dare to take a chance on a used one and I only use factory Saab rebuilt ones.
It is a company called Eriksson that sell rebuilt ones but the shipping from them to me is too costly and therefore the Saab rebuilt is a better alternative for me.
