Worried about my Pilot Bearing

I've been doing a clutch job recently on my 89 SPG. I had the flywheel resurfaced and slid a new pilot bearing in.
But, as I mentioned in another post, I was having a hell of a time getting the clutch shaft in because I had tightened the pressure plate down prematurly.
I gave the shaft some grief trying to get it in. I wacked it with a rubber hammer with all I could muster in that small space, and even tried prying it in.
So, now I'm a little worried about the pilot bearing because someone mentioned on here that the bearing could be shifted out of position. I can't really see where it could have gone, but is it possible that the bearing was severely damaged, or that it did shift somewhere that isn't "ideal" for the bearing to be?
Sorry for the weird question. I just want to cover my ass so I'm not pulling EVERYTHING apart, rather than just the clutch assy.
