Dunno if the working difference is physical or psychological, but it just popped right off once I knew it HAD to. Filled it w/diesel, soaked and shook it, blew 2 cans of brake cleaner (had to bend the straw into a tight "J" to dislodge some of the bigger corner deposits) and a lot of compressed air thru it, and there was nothing but a few thin (permanent?) smudges of crap left. So it's holding fluid now as we speak.
I Must Say, filling the clutch line backwards thru the slave's bleeder nipple until the res topped out worked VERY nicely. Bleeding? What's bleeding? I have a working clutch (WooHOO), my spacer ring is finally out of the pressure plate, and I can now install all the intake/coolant pipes that live all over the clutch cover.
Now to sort out that seized rear caliper I found...
