does your car have sway bars? that little obstacle really thru me for a loop...
i noticed my steering column also telescoped up suddenly as i was reefing on it, and it moved about 3/4 " too.
dont know what sort of steering wheel you have but if its factory just take it off and push down on the shaft and see what happens. then reapply the wheel (in a correct position of course). A Momo Corse wheel came with my car and i have slowly adjusted toe on either side to get the wheel straight again.
you obviously were vigilant in getting the new rack locknuts in their correct places to guarantee wheel alignment. i've frigged with this for a couple weeks now, using string wrapped around the wheels and trying to get a little toe-in as per John K, but the steering sucked.
then i was telling my Dad this and he says go to the garage and look for this tool my old neighbor gave him - so i go and find this wheel alignment tool - two 3' long rods attached to each other with two locking bolts, allowing the rods to slide past each other and thus become different lengths in total.
stick it on across the inside of the front wheel-rim, lock it up, then stick it on across the inside of the back of the wheel rim, and there should be a couple of mm of difference (more toe-in obviously). Voila!
alignment done!
