re bearing search, not that i have any.... Posted by Saabu [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: guess I'll get the crank ground...source for oversize, davidm, Thu, 21 Oct 2004 05:22:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
i believe correct terminology if you have the crank ground is you'd need 'undersize' bearings (they do this to confuse we non-industry people).
anyway, i could be wrong.
but i too am looking for Vandervell and in discussing this with my machinist just today, he has recommended and sold Federal Mogul bearings for 15 years and never had a problem with them wearing prematurely.
i had recently bought some FM bearings from eEuro and in reading some of the posts on this board, was ready to ship them back for a refund and look for Vandervell.
however, i'm told Vandervell were bought by a firm called ACL, which i believe went t-u shortly after.
another good bearing name is Clevite.
on another note, everyone recommends chromium top rings and this is correct. my guy said the only source he had was would be a custom order out of the US; the cost of ordering just the top rings was about the same as a whole set....
so screwed at every turn..
anyway, Swedish Dynamics offers old stock of vandervell bearings and chrome top rings for like $280 US so assuming you get them, that might be the best place to go if your heart is set on Vandervell.
if there are any other site sponsors who sell same please speak up!
