Big Oops by me. Horizontal, not vertical. Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: anders: that vertical screw should be all the way in?, eric 85 900t, Sun, 31 Oct 2004 08:05:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have no clue why I'm having difficulties keeping those two words apart.
The 10mm head, "horizontal" adjusting screw should be in as much as possible (only used as an emergency idle adjuster when throttle start to get dirty again).
And the "vertical" (8mm lock nut) screw should be used to set the idle at around 900 RPM with warm engine.
CAUTION! 800-900 rpm is for your 84 8 valve engine, the 16 valve engines need to be set at 600-700 rpm and the AIC valve brings it up to around 900 RPM.
The 8 valve with CIS injection has it own set of rules in how to get them to start good at cold and keep a steady idle.
It has been written about many times before so I wont go into details.
It would take me hours to explain exactly how the CIS system needs to be set up, but it only takes about 1 hour to check and adjust if I have the car in the shop.
