Recently I acquired a winter driving replacement for my great old 1988 900 which was retired last spring when it was hit and totaled with about 270K on the odometer. I looked at trucks and other models like Subaru and VW, but after coming to my senses,I returned to what I have known for a half million miles. I got my hands on a very nice 93 900S. The body was great and after my Saab wizard with 30 years experience gave me the nod, I bought it. He observed one problem where there was excessive rust on the body members or braces that the front bumper is attached to [#6 in the factory diagram F2876 AAC90]. Apparently this has been a problem area with the later vintage 900s, possibly, due to poor alloy composition [my good old 88 had no such weakness]. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has delt with this problem.I know the replacement parts are about $60 each. I was wondering if that was the path or whether I could refer to my welding wizard [who is so good, I think he could weld in space] to put on some type of patch or jury-rig. Thanks W.B.
