Before the CD player can read the disk, it must first assess the disk's partition that "explains" to the player what language the disk is written in. If the player does'nt "know" that language, the player will boot to the next disk. You would need to program your players CPU to understand MP3. That is essentially impossible for people like us, and because MP3's are compressed files that require calculations to decode, I suspect that it is unlikely that an old Clarion box could be retrofitted as it doesn't have that kind of memory storage or cpu power.
The Disk changer is also a disk reader, so that it will function independently of the new stereo box you are installing. Just because the new stereo reads MP3 does not mean the old CD changer will reap the benefits.
The old days of dropping any record onto any turntable are over.
