What's the average fuel pump life on these cars

I've owned my 900T now for about 2 years, and it has about 150K on the dial. Now, from my experience with Chevy trucks & vans, the fuel pump on those vehicles is about 150K miles. After that...you're running on borrowed time. Many people that know Chevy trucks good say to just change out the fuel pump, even if it is running so it won't leave you stranded. It's in the tank on a Chevy, so it can be a real pain to change out. For the pickup owners, many take the bed off the truck to do it, while many of the SUV and van owners cut a hole in the floorboard to make a changeout easier...other's just fuss with dropping the fuel tank (and then cut the hole above it before it's re-installed).
So my question when should I go out and buy a new fuel pump for my 900T and install it so that it won't leave me stranded somewhere. Am I running on borrowed time now, or is it still got some good life left. Where is the fuel pump anyways? In the tank like Domestic and Asian cars?
