That is wierd. That depends if the 1992 and later style of dash instrumentation use a pickup and sender setup or if they still use cables to drive the gears in the speedometer. I haven't killed an ignition switch in a 900 yet, but here's what happens when you buy a boxy swedish car from a lawyer that needs an ignition switch and everything else on the planet:
Turn key on two clicks, nothing happens. Especially when cold, it would take ten or fifteen seconds then you hear a couple relays click and then the dash lights came on dim and eventually, the tach needle skipped to around 2000 RPM and another relay clicked over and suddenly everything worked. Starter motors are underrated at times.
If the tachometer needle instead is skipping it's a pretty sure sign of ignition system troubles. That could be a switch issue or something else.
Sorry I can't pin it down directly. Check the connections on the crank sensor, air mass meter, all the fuses (including under seat) (don't pull out airbag fuses with the ignition on) and the heat shield over the catalyst.
Also to help track wierd electrical issues, the wiring diagrams in the Bentley 16 valve manual will help you immensely.
Good luck. Keep us posted.
Get it- posted???
Sorry.
