Couple of other things (may be a little beyond basic)

Aside from basic tool box, screw driver set, ratchet set, wrench set
Here's the stuff gets used regularily by me.
- I bought a portable 12 V rechargeable jump starter/air compressor/light from Sam's for around $60. I've used that A LOT, especially the air compressor for tires...
- I also invested in a flashlight that you wear on your head (headband) bt Garrity.
- I rotate my tires, so I have two 2ton jacks and change the side at a time.
- Spark plug gap gauge (they are less than $3 in most places)
- Vice grip (especially one with needle snout)
- I shop Sears regularily for stuff that goes on sale and Craftsman days (additional 10% off) and get them on sale.
- Metric hex set socket would be handy.
- If you ever have to do headgasket, you'll need external torx socket set (head bolts).
- A plier set often comes in handy.
- Electricians tool with e-tape and connectors come in handy.
- Magnetic (and remote) pick-up tool (you WILL drop tools and bolts and nuts) in the crevice.
- Telescoping mirror to see hard to reach place.
- Can't forget Duct tape
- Rubber mallet (I use to pound on the ratchet handle/breaker bar to break loose stubborn bolts, which beats getting my knuckles beat)
- Chemicals WD 40/liquid wrench/rust penetrator/gasket remover/degreaser
- Speed wrench comes in handy when you have that looong bolt to get out.
- Compartmentized storage to keep track of nuts and bolts you take out.
- Masking tape and pen to label the vacuum lines you take out
- Wire ties
- Tap and die set (to repair cross threads)
- Easy out (if you ever break a screw or bolt or temp sensor)
- Fender cover (Too keep your front fender free from belt buckle streak)
- Shop towel
- Kitty litter or dryzits sucks up sall the oil and liquid from your garage floor.
- Hose clamps
I think that about does it.
Good luck...
James from Michigan
