CARFAX, high miles, and 89 900 S - Questions

I am looking at an 89 900S, 5 speed, at a local new car dealership. The car's odometer shows 92+K miles. It drives good and feels good and solid. It looks to be in good shape. The problem is this: I rean a CARFAX check that said possibly there was some hanky-panky with the odometer back in 2001 and, if that's right, the car probably has close to 200K miles on it. The car truly doesn't look like it has been used for 200K miles (I've had plenty of 200K mile cars and they look worn out when they get that much mileage) and the engine looks "lived in" instead of like it has been cleaned. Some of the belts and hoses have been replaced, as one would expect. The asking price for this car is $1995, although I think that's probably high for this area and for rust bubbles, cracked windshield and so forth.
What should I make out of the CARFAX suggestion of hanky-panky on the odometer? How long could an average-maintained 900 S be expected to hold out? I don't need to drive a long distance every day and just really want this car (a) because I've always wanted one and (b) I have another car but want it for a spare/occasional use for the trip to work, church, etc.
Any info would be appreciated.
