How to get behind glove box area?

1989 900 convertible. Factory stereo not working, powers up and the antenna goes up/down but nothing else. I've had the stereo and equalizer out [and the cages], checked everything out but still it's not working. There's been a Kenwood trunk mounted CD changer added with a head/control unit. The CD head/control is not mounted, it's just loose in the console storage area. This too powers up but can't get a CD to play, it just keeps searching.
There's fused wiring spliced in on the OEM harness to/for the CD player but none of the wires on the head/control unit nor the CD changer main wire are directly plug in. These 3 spliced wires go back behind to the rear of the glove box area where I'm assuming there's some kind of junction block where they meet the CD changer and head/control wiring also headed up to that area.
I can't figure out how to get behind there. I tried removing the screws for what I thought held in the glove box but I can't get it out. Please tell me how to get hehind there.
I'm likely going to install a new stereo with a CD head unit and remove the OEM stereo/equalizer and just put a cubby where the equalizer once was. I'd still like to remove the CD changer set up to possibly use it in another car.
THANKS!
