Hey Lynnsy,
You do have one other option now that you're going to replace the stock stereo equip with aftermarket...
Move the head unit to where the EQ was and put in a cup holder from a late 80's Ford Taurus. search on Ebay usually 10 to 20 bucks but you can find one in a junk yard for $5 (that's what I did).
Doing this has two benefits...
1. somewhat hides the new stereo from would be theives and...
2. you get a neat little cup and coin holder for when you pull into the starbucks that seem to be on every corner now with a convenient drive-thru!
another benefit to having the stereo down there is you can easly manipulate the controls with hand on shifter in 1st, 3rd or 5th gear with out having to take your eyes off the road. If you choose to do this later it's really easy. you can remove the stereo cage and run the wiring down to the lower center console through a gap to the left of the heater control valve (you might have to clip a few zip ties in order to do this) Email me if you want/need more precise instructions with photos.
Good luck.
