Thanks all. Here's an update... I stopped by Disco Tire Friday mid-afternoon (where I purchased the Michelins and the Dunlops before that and the Nittos before that and the Pirellis before that...) The sales guy looked at my tires and the mileage documentation and gave me a $55 credit for EACH of my pre-maturely worn Michelins. Then he proceeded to find me a "deal" on some new rubber. He immediately tried to get me into some Yokohama YK420's. I was very hesitant. I always like to do research ahead of time for these kinds of purchases, and knew nothing about Yokohama tires, other that the fact that the ones on my Honda CRX 15 years ago did not last. Anyway, he assured me that the would perform...cornering, rain, treadlife, yada yada yada, I was "next in line" they could have them installed in 30 minutes. And if I wasn't happy with them, I can bring them back and they'll "make me happy"

So I took the bait. The tread seems grippy, but then I can feel the sidwalls mush from side to side. My Saab feels sloppier than my grandma's Buick! I did a little research and learned that the YK420 is manufactured by Yokohamma exclusively for Disco Tire. It is supposedly based on and nearly identical to the AVID T4. Although interestingly consumer ratings for the AVID H4 are quite good (Tire Rack), while the YK420 (Epinions) are VERY poor. Needless to say I NEED to take them back! I am strongly leaning toward the Kumho ECSTA 716's. However, accoding to Tire Rack's classification system, the ECSTA 716's fit into the (lower) "Grand Touring A/S" category, while the AVID T4 fits into the "Performance A/S" category, and the Pilot XGT H4/ Pirreli P6 a/s, Potenza RE92, & Dunlop Sport A2 are classified in the "High Performance " category. Another thing that comes to mind is that while I've been shopping for "all season" tires, my Michelins never saw snow, nor did the Dunlops before that! The thought was "what if I wanna go (?)" Perhaps I should consider a better performing "summer tire" in lieu of a tire with $now traction attributes. Hmmmm. nothing is ever simple is it? Stay tuned!
