If hydraulics have failed and you need to get the clutch out to repair or replace the slave cylinder, here's the easy and almost fun way my local mechanic Chris Jett told me: Get 3 fat nuts, say SAE 1/2", about 1/2" deep. Remove every other one of the six pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts, and loosen the other three almost to removal. Then use a bar to pry the pressure plate up some on the 3 dowel pins that locate it exactly to flywheel.
There are three "ears" on the forged steel plate of the pressure plate, that stick out through the domed pressed-steel back shell, around the sides. Pry each of these up a little by prying off to the side, while slipping one of your fat nuts under it, using the rivet head coming through to catch and hold the nut. (Use a pocket-clip magnet to get nut just where you want it while prying up.) Then as you tighten down on the three remaining pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts, the nuts will jack the pressure plate up and hold it released. Then slip your Saab special tool (cheap through your local dealer, around $12) or if it works, the bucket handle, around the inside of the domed part of the pressure plate to hold the fingers depressed, and remove the 3 bolts, pick your fat nuts out with your magnet, with the rest of the removal and replacement as detailed elsewhere, say on the marvelously helpful townsendimports web site.
A gal friend recently had one of the springs on a Valeo brand clutch plate break and fall out, jamming the pressure plate from releasing, and I needed the above trick to get at it, though the hydraulics worked fine.
