Oil return line on 83T Posted by Camm [Email] (#191) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Camm) on Mon, 3 Jan 2005 17:04:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So, this weekend, I finally got enough free time to tear into my hobby Saab - an 83T. Among other things, I'm putting a headgasket on it (and replacing motor mount while I'm down there.) My question is, how on earth do you undo the rearward 13mm bolt on the oil return line from the turbo? I got it off eventually, but it was nearly the longest part of the job! I'm wondering if there is a trick angle or a special tool that I just didnt think of... Beer and frustration sometimes close the mind to creative options - leads to 'use a bigger hammer' mentality. Also, in regards to possibly bad 8V heads - with a straightedge, I found that mine was just about .005 (5 thousandths) out(right between 2 and 3, dead in the middle. Is this a major deal for a shop to fix? Could it have been measurement error? If the head is fixed, will it require a new line bore of the cam bearings? I had to throw out a 5 cylinder VW head once for being .020 out.
