AMM failure? '92 turbo

I think I have a poorly functioning air mass meter, but I want to share my symptoms with you all just to make sure. The problem I've been having with my '92 turbo (all tuned up with the right parts) often misses on acceleration and very occasionally shuts down. She starts right back up. The other day, the engine light came on and the idle rpm moved up to 1200. I figure this was limp home mode. I cut the motor, started it back up, and it idled fine (solid 800 rpm).
I checked the O2 sensor reading at idle: .2 to .8 volts. (Bentley spec .4-1.0)
I swapped the AMM with one from a junkyard: O2 sensor reading moved to .1 to .7 volts. With the junkyard AMM in, I can't rev above 4k rpm in any gear higher than first. I figure my junkyard AMM is no good.
So, does this sound like an AMM failure?
Thanks,
Greg
