While I think something might be wrong with the AMM, I would also check another thing. Previously you mentioned new dist rotor. If not OEM, the resistance might be wrong between the tip and center contact. Should be 1000 ohms. Non OEM often are zero ohms as are burned through OEM rotors. This will couse stutters under power//boost, but it shouldn't trigger the CE light.
Back the the AMM. The AMM tells the ECU to open the injectors to give the right mixture depending on the mass of air cooling the hot wire. Problems will trigger CE light and codes. I'm wondering if the problem is a bad electrical connection in the AMM. If you go ahead and put in a rebuilt AMM and the problem persists maybe the ECU has a bad connection or a wiring problem in between AMM and ECU. Also, sometimes the fuel pump relay gets pitted and cuts power to the pump intermittently.
Just for the heck of it you could put a jumper wire (12 or 14 gauge) between fuses 27 and 30 to run the fuel pump continuously and bypass the relay. I personally would try it because it costs nothing and is easy. If the problem now goes away, suspect ECU, relay, wiring and maybe not AMM. If the problem persists, I would suspect AMM or ECU.
Another thing I'd do is give Jim at sobstory a call 800-583-0370. He has lowpriced rebuilt AMM's and might have a loaner ECU to swap in. While the patient is open, I'd put in new main and fuel pump relays. Cheap and can't hurt.
