Hello Wayne,
Hope winter has been easy on you so far in Calgary. I think I mentioned in the past that I've skied Whistler-Blackcomb twice now, loved it! You are fortunate to live in some of the most beautiful country that I've seen in North America!
OK, the details:
Hoses clamps to/from AIC are tight (but I have not looked closely at the hoses)
Coolant temp sensor (blue one under injectors) has not been replaced ; I did replace this on my 90S which suffered from terrible hot starting, and it solved that problem. Maybe I should try this?
All vac. lines have been replaced (1.5 yrs ago, this problem thruout). I did check all devices with the MI-T-Vac (a damn good tool) and everything is holding vacuum. This car also suffers from an underperforming blower fan, which I replaced because it seized/death squeal....others suggested that something is plumbed wrong in the ventilation system vac. control lines...related to my idle problem, I can't imagine how?
Turbo bypass valve was replaced at the major rebuild of engine/trans in 2003 Jan. , I can recheck but was good last I looked.
Vac. advance module was holding vacuum last checked; I will recheck it.
This is the idle pattern. Cold start, the idle swings MORE wildly, maybe from 750 to 1500 guessing; once warm the swing is less noticeable, and actually swings from "the top of the 1 on the tach, to the bottom of the 1" which is probably only 300 rpm or so. The swinging is still present, just reduced amplitude and about the same frequency.
There are the (too much info) details.
By the way, I did not buy the Notchback, passed on it for a 91T which has since come and gone. I did the bumper to bumper conversion on my sons 89 Base which we retrofitted an 87 Turbo 5speed into....every wire from tailight to headlight, except the cabin dome light wire was reused! The car runs great, and my son is at school in St.Cloud Minnesota, currently freezing his fanny off (compared to NC, my home).
thanks, and any more wisdom from North of the border is appreciated!
DET
90T (the twitching idle)
90S (my first C900, runs perfect, needs a clutch soon)
89 Base Turbo (the FrankenSAAB) :o)
