Nines Magazine (issue 237), the magazine of the Saab Club of North America, had an article on this (see link in this message).
They concluded that the AC (note: this isn't the same as "AC Delco") and Mann are the best in the smaller OE size filters. They gave the edge to the AC because it's more widely available (even in Wal-Mart).
In the larger size filter, they liked the Deutsch.
I personally buy the Saab filter from the dealer when I'm planning ahead (the dealer's parts counter's closed on weekends), and when it's a last-minute thing I go with either a Mobil 1 or Bosch filter, figuring that Bosch is original equipment for so many other parts, that I'd guess their filters are just as good.
I also recently bought a Bosch air filter and oil filter. I bought them online.
Personally I live in a hot climate so I use Castrol GTX 20W50 motor oil. The ambient temp here never gets lower than the 40's, really. I heard somewhere that I shouldn't use synthetic oil because my car's so old it'd leak right through the head gasket, or something like that.
Good luck.
