Wiper control stick broken - Possible fix?

This is my first post to the boards, and I've found them very informative in the past - Had troubles with the thermostat in my '92 C900. Two weeks ago, I discovered that pulling the wiper control stick had no effect - It neither drove the wipers nor the pump for the fluid. I assumed that there was a fault in the pump or some similar issue, and two days ago, I attempted to turn on the intermittent wipers in the rain, and the wipers engaged, got about halfway across the windshield, stopped, continued to the end of the cycle, and operated normally - When I switched to the slower of the two constant speeds, the control stick seeemed to disengage from whatever it was that it connects to, and is now hanging loose inside the steering column - I was able to turn off the wipers as the stick was coming loose, but have not been able to find whatever slot/port the stick connects to. I can only assme that repairs at a shop would be costly in terms of labor, and was wondering if anyone else has had and solved this problem. Any help at all would be appreciated, thanks!
