1985 Turbo 4 door

My helpful father (Tim Taylor if you will) was putzing around the other weekend with some odds and ends on my car while I waxed. The main breather hose into the valve cover keeps coming off so he was going to wire on there as we were out of hose clamps. In the process of removing the small hose connected to the same breather he busted this tiny valve "thing." Upon further inspection it appears it wasn't working properly in the first place. In the meantime he just ran a hose straight into that breather.

The funny part is, since we've done this, the car runs like a dream. I was having issues with the car killing a lot and the RPMs dropping. Mechanic thought it was MAS but we haven't gotten around to diagnosing it as other more important things have come up.

In any case I'd like to identify this part and see what I can find out about it. I presume when this is replaced with a working valve the car will continue to run well (one never knows).

Any ideas? The markings say "Germany" and there's what I assume to be a directional arrow.
