well, yesterday started out at -10f and began to snow. It warmed up to the 20's toward the end of the day. We got about 4" of snow ontop of a couple that was already packed down / melted good. Then last night, we got about 8 more inches and it was stil snowing in the morning. This is what Saab with studded haks are made for. (and nuts like me who like driving in snow).
I brushed off my car with a big broom, started it up, and plowed across my yard and down my driveway (I have about 4" of ground clearance on my lowered 88 900T). As I started down the driveway, I put the windshield wipers on high and snow starts to come up over the hood and blow over the car as I continue to plow with the nose of my car. About 300 feet later, I bust through a snowbank and onto my street. Awesome. My wife doesn't like driving in snow and will be glad I experienced the drama of clearing a path for her. My brother plows my driveway for free/cheap, so we get plowed last and only when there is enough snow, so it wasn't yet cleared. The street was white from continuous snow, and was a pleasing drive. It had been plowed but not sanded and snow had accumulated since it was plowed.
About a mile later, I got stuck behind someone going 20mph max, and when I had a clear view, I passed them quickly and continued on my drive to work. School was canceled, so I didn't have to slow to 15 when passing the school. This is a great season for driving in the snow.
Coming home, there were big drifts and I slowed down on the straight before the decreasing radius corner by the airport which is usually covered with drifts. Good thing. Even with snow tires, it's easy to lose directional control there if taking it at too high a speed when going from clean road to drifted road.
It's 10f now, and the whole outdoors is a beautiful clear moonlit snow scene. Any my brother had plowed the driveway, which made my wife happy.
