2 quick turbo rebuild questions Posted by Camm [Email] (#191) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Camm) on Sun, 30 Jan 2005 20:05:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm in the midst of rebuilding the turbo on my 83T... The literature I've seen says that the compressor wheel should be a royal bitch to get off(involving presses, cursing) yet mine slid off like cake. Am I just lucky, or is this a sign of a problem? Does the degree of hassle involved in removing it really vary THAT much? The turbo is in good shape, in fact rebuilding it looks almost like overkill, but since I had the kit... Next question: The turbine housing has a little crack starting in the wastegate opening. Just how big of a problem is this? What is the worst case scenario from using this turbo with this condition? Death and dismemberment? Worse?
Oh yeah, 1 more... Different rebuild guides differ on the need to clean out the oil passages - one saying to do so is to invite trouble, and the other recommending that I do a thorough job with carb cleaner and thin wire Any guidance?
