Without the right spring compressor, it's a bitch getting them out.
As for the control arm, if you can weld, then there's another way. What you do is cut out the old, bent arm (hack through the pivot piece on the engine bay side, bend the arm in, pull through the hole in the body). Take a new arm and cut it at the pivot piece, too, so you can squeeze/bend it to fit through the body. Once you get it through, unbend it, align the pivot piece, and weld it up.
Disclaimer: I have not done this, only been told about it by a Saab tech who used to do it back when c900s were current and insurance companies would pay to repair, not total. It was apparently profitable, as the rate to do it reflected engine removal, but the welding trick took just a few hours. This is all the info I have; key info may be missing??
Replace the bushings while you're at it...
