alignment question

I own a '94 turbo cnvt that I use as a weekend driver. I put about 1K mileage on it after new ball joints, front shocks, tires and alignment. A couple of weeks go by where I didn't drive it at all and when I did take it out on the road, the steering wheel has a slight but noticeable offset. I would assume that means the front end alignment is off.
This may be a coincidence, but the same thing happened to me with my '90 9000 turbo several years ago. I got the alignment done, then stopped using the 9000 except on weekends for about 3 months. I drove the car back from the airport and noticed the same steering wheel offset that I currently have with the 900. Anybody know what's going on? Is this an alignment problem or is this just steering wheel play? Does this happen after replacement of front-end suspension parts or when the car sits unused for a period of time?
