I don't know what normal, I guess it would have to be only a few milli-amps. But there's larger draws at first, from the interior light delay timer & maybe alarms booting themselves...
Take off the negative battery cable, & touch it back to the post in a way that allows you to do the following:
- Hold (clamp?) the ammeter red lead to the cable, black lead to the post. Use autorange or highest range.
- Hold the cable on the post for a minute or 2 to allow the timers & whatever else to settle down to their long-term conditions.
- Pull the cable away from the post; now all the current has to go through the meter.
