If the thermostat gets sticky, it can cause excessive heating. I'm pretty sure in the 900, there is a thermostat position that cuts off heat to the heater core. If the thermostat is over two years old, it should be replaced - the thermostat is a moving part and a wear item. Very easy to replace. After replacing it, bleed the system (required in a 900). Again, very easy.
The nice part about the 900 thermostat is that you can replace it without draining the system. The thermostat is at the top of the system. When you remove the thermostat housing, a little fluid will come out, but not a lot.
