I'm not sure which company you're dealing with -- and all of them have their own policies about doing this -- but why don't you ask them to send out an adjuster and let them pay you for the PD claim out right? That way, you could take it to someone Saab-trustworthy or DIY. Of course, if you have someone in mind to fix it (as in you could drive it wherever), and the carrier insists the check be made out to both you and the shop, then you can pretty much take it anyplace you like. If you get into a situation where the carrier insists you use whatever providers are on its approved list, balk at that. If that happens, check with your AG's office or state insurance commission to make sure that's kosher.
