It's do-able if you have lots of patience. One of the problems is what I have called housings but an earlier poster here today called "billings," the canvas sleeves underneath that hold two wires that suck the cover down into the contour of the foam cushion. They are made of cotton canvas that rots and chafes away, and will probably need to be replaced. Just stitching the leather is pain enough as there's a backing of foam and cloth that hides the stitch holes. (Use a leather stitching awl and a tough nylon or heavy polyester thread that doesn't clash with your leather color.) But also having to stitch on new "billing" is very trying. I did this, stitching after doing the main seam, and using a smaller needle and lighter thread. Having a shop do it means they'll probably re-stitch with a whole new set of needle holes and that would bother me.
What those sleeves hold is a horseshoe shaped wire and a short straight wire beneath the grooves of the seat cushion that are sucked down by S-shaped wire hooks to the support wires beneath the shaped foam seat cushion.
The misshapen seats are probably because those wires were left out or not hooked down, and also because the seat might have been split for a long time and got wet and shrank when not properly held tight in place. My idea is to wet the leather on re-attaching it, so it can stretch and be properly pulled into position.
To do the whole job you undo the two allen (or Torx?) bolts at front of seat, tip front of seat up and unhook seat at rear, having unplugged the wires to seat heater. Then, out of car, undo bolts at each side that hold the back on and remove it, also unplugging its heater wire from the bottom.
Then pry off several spring clips at bottom edge of front and rear leatherette skirts, and work the ends of two stiff wires that hold the side skirts down, out of holes in seat base sides.
Then you need to unhook I think it's 6 or 7 S-hooks from the wires underneath the cushion, that go through and hold the horseshoe and straight wires down.
You can also re-cover the driver seat with a good passenger seat cover if you can find one, as today's earlier poster suggested and as I recommend. They are absolutely identical, or nearly so except for seat-tipping hardware holes maybe on 2-door seat backs.
