It sounds like you've got a fuel or spark issue instead. I've misaligned timing on non-interference engines before and they ran, but they ran like dren. Look for broken connectors or grounds you had to remove to do the head. Also be sure you put the coil connectors, plug wires, and the like back on in the right place.
