1985 900 5 speed, 26-30 brand new, 28-32 around 120K, 26-29 by 190K
1990 900 5 speed, 25-27 spiwited, 29-33 casually
1988 900 slushcan, 22-23 no matter what, down to 20 in the winter, absolutely pathetic
1988 900 5 speed (same car as above) 26-29 spiwited, 29-34 casually in the summer
1992 900S 5 speed ragtop, we'll see.... 2.1L, 16V, LH
Keep in mind the 85 and 88 use outdated CI injection which cannot adjust for air temperature. They are also 8 valve cars; the 90 was 16V
Also keep in mind in early 1990 the fuel tank size increased. 16.6 gallons in my '88 and I'll get 450-495 in the summer out of it (totally full to just barely above bone dry) and I've gotten 510 once. I do a lot of coasting, especially in the summer. My '92 has an 18-point-something-gallon fuel tank. Even if the extra weight of the ragtop (150-200 pounds) drags down the mileage, I'm estimating 28 or so which translates to 505 miles. With luck, the EFI and valves and having ripped out the AC (there goes 100 pounds) and the top down and keeping my foot out of it (2.1- HUGE engine!) I'll get around 34.
I've written more about this in reply to Matt's post, linked below.
