I wouldn't worry too much but then I rarely do. Just stuff a shop towel in the input shaft hole, clip the cover back on on the front, and pull a bread bag down over it all and fasten with a rubber band. Then keep the spray away from that area, which you're going to clean later with solvent, a rag and a wire brush.
Open it back up once you're done spraying. And if somehow you do manage to spray some water inside, pop the rear cover and tilt it around to drain out any that comes out, and leave it open in a dry place for a few days before sealing it back up to reinstall.
It sounds as if it would be a terrible thing, but a little water can't do much. Even dumping a quart or two in and leaving it sealed up for a week or two wouldn't make much of even a surface rust stain on any of those parts.
Months like that, or years of sitting in a wet basement that flooded periodically? Now that's another matter.
