I had an interesting conversation with someone at one of the big mailorder Saab part vendors. I was ordering some other parts and asked if they sold a universal 3-wire sensor. He told me they used to sell a cheap ford sensor, but had stopped, because they were getting so many returns on them - which they put down to buyers who just didn't know how to do a reliable splice. Dealing miniscule voltages and currents as they do, and hanging under the car exposed to exhaust heat and water, it doesn't take much to degrade the connection to the point where functioning is impaired. I think crimping done right, can do the job, as can of course soldering , but casual use of hardware store connectors, a $4 crimping tool, and electrical tape may not.
I agree the Bosch setup is pretty funky, which may be why no one has actually ever seen one. Interesting that the installation instructions on the Bosch site do not give a part number for it!
