Tell me more about what else might be damaged and how to inspect those parts. I can email pics to you if you'd like. Send me an email if so.
I am replacing both ball joints, tie rod end, shock, and all related bushings (sway bar and a-arms).
The upper ball joint mount is twisted slightly (though, enough to be clearly visible), causing the spring to bend/bulge towards the front of the car. That ball joint also was completely messed up, with the weight of the front end collapsing it towards the front of the car.
For comparison, the driver's side is fine. The upper ball joint seat is perfectly level, and the spring is perfectly vertical. The boot is torn on that ball joint, but the joint is not collapsed.
The lower ball joint on the bad side appears to be okay, even though I am going to replace it. How would I be able to tell if that a-arm is bent? Is it better just to assume it's got damage since the top is so bad and replace both a-arms on that side as a set? Thank goodness they're on the pass. side which is easier to remove.
How good are a-arms from a salvage yard? Can they be trusted to be okay?
Joe
