Sometimes ya just learn that it's better to have somebody else do it :-)
It's good that you were at a point that you could sew it back up with a few new parts. A few years ago, when I replaced the pilot bearing on my '89, I had to cut the clutch slave in half, so there wasn't much of an option for dealing with it any other way. Now, I know better.
Hopefully the mechanic has a good, time-effective way of swapping the arm out.
You'll like the way the car drives when it's all done. I hope that it's at least as much as how I like the way mine drives after a new rack and balljoints.
