The main difference between the 93 and 94 900 is that it's a different car. Entirely new chassis. Entirely new transmission. The C900 ('93 and earlier) had the engine/tranny inline; in the NG900 ('94 and later) it's transverse. THis makes for a much shorter engine compartment. The engine is pretty much the same. The electrics of the NG900 are entirely different utilizing a data bus structure. The C900 design took a lot of hand assembly, which was very expensive, and getting more expensive with time. The NG900 was designed for more automated assembly and less hand work.
The NG900 manual tranny had a cable actuation for the clutch, which was changed back to hydraulic (due to cable failures) after a few years. As you know, the 99/900 uses a hydraulic clutch.
The NG900 has a stiffer chassis than the C900, and slightly smaller inside. Countless other improvements/changes. They share a manufacturer (Saab) and a model name (900). The C900 traces back to 1979, and the body is essentially the same from there until 1993. Not a bad run.
The convertable 900 stayed with the old body style in '94, and went to the new body style in '95. Rolling out a new model is very expensive - it requires massive changes to the assembly line, engineering time, stocking of parts, etc. Saab isn't that big a company. With their limited resources, they put their energy into getting the sedan/coupe body styles out and well supported, and then turned their attention to the convertable. They left the convertable assembly line to run for another year. You see that in other manufacturers, where the convertable shows up a year after.
The cars are quite different, in my opinion. If you've been driving a 99, you'll find the 900 pretty similar, just a bit larger and more comfy. But no matter how you dress it up, a C900 is a mid '80s car, at best. The NG900 is an early 90's car.
