clutch smell Posted by Paul [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Have 94 900 TC and was driving hard the other night for about 5 or 6 miles on a twisty road. My down shifts were pretty smooth with respect to matching engine speed and drive components. When I parked the car and shut the engine off(after allowing turbo to disipate some heat) I noticed what smelled like clutch burn to me. The car is stock with 61,000 miles.
At 52,496 miles the clutch master cylinder was replaced, at 52,886 the clutch slave cylinder was replaced. The pedal always seemed odd to me in that it travels freely for a couple/few inches before any resisitance is felt. The clutch engages early in the pedal travel up off the floor. I am generally good on clutches and I offer as evidence the fact that I got 149,000 miles(10 yrs) on the original clutch of my 90 900 sedan I bought new and 136,000 miles(8yrs) on a Mazda 626 before that. Is the clutch in this car not up to spirited driving ? I am considering an upgrade in components to boost my horsepower but am worried about whether or not the vehicle is really up to it, clutch wise. Any thoughts appreciated.
