It is a common practice by non Saab mechanic to take a sledge hammer and punch the firewall in so that they can pull the long bolt out that holds the alternator.
They cannot figure out that you loosen the three bolts holding alternator bracket to engine and pull the bracket, long bolt and alternator out as one piece.
If that is the case? Look down in the engine compartment where the alternator sits to see if any damage to firewall is done.
Something might have been knocked loose inside the dash by the banging. Maybe the speaker assembly in the left dash speaker grill?
