I've heard a story that might mean something to you in this case, although the specifics were about a Saturn.
A friend was telling me of a "weak battery" problem, even after he installed a new one. someone told him that corrosion can "run down the cable" and at a low point, corrode and virtually disconnect the cable.
So my friend investigated, and found a low loop in the ground wire (which is not a 5 minute installation!) and peeled the insulation away from it...finding a badly corroded cable. So he cut it, and using baking soda, cleaned the ends (discarding the worst half inch or so). Then he solderend in a piece of copper pipe/tubing that fit snug on the wiring. ANd used shrink tube to replace the insulation.
Problem solved.
Bottom line: look carefully at the battery cables, esp ground.
may be of no worth in this case, but...? <grin>
