The splines can get sort of rusty and dry and the disk hangs up. Anti-seize works well as does synthetic brake caliper grease. Regular moly grease probably is OK, too. Just don't over do it, so grease isn't flung onto the clutch disk.
If the grease doesn't solve the crunch, you probably need to replace the pilot bearing in the flywheel behnid the clutch. Definitely try the grease first...maybe you'll be lucky.
